What is the Barebells Soft Bar?
The Barebells Soft Bar is Barebells' answer to a question the brand asked itself in early 2022: what if a protein bar was so soft, so indulgent in texture, that it felt entirely different from anything else on the market? The result was the Soft Bar range โ a family of 55g bars with a melt-in-the-mouth core, a silky milk chocolate coating and 16 to 17g of protein with no added sugar, launched first in Scandinavia and rapidly expanded worldwide on the back of enthusiastic reception.
What sets the Soft Bar apart from the Barebells Original bars โ and from all other protein bars โ is the texture. Where Original bars have a firm, nougat-like bite, Soft Bars have an extraordinarily yielding, almost confectionery-soft core. The Marshmallow Rocky Road features a genuine marshmallow layer with crunchy peanuts. The Caramel Choco delivers the softest chocolate and caramel filling the brand has ever produced โ described by Barebells themselves as "our softest bar ever." The Banana Dream pairs a banana-flavoured soft core with caramel sauce. The Coco Choco contains over 10% real coconut flakes in a coconut-forward soft filling wrapped in milk chocolate.
Like all Barebells bars, the Soft Bar range is free from added sugar, free from palm oil, and halal certified (with standard exceptions). The sweetener system uses a combination of maltitol, xylitol and sucralose โ three polyol and zero-calorie sweeteners that maintain sweetness without added sugar. As with all maltitol-containing products, excessive consumption may produce a laxative effect.
Available individually as a single 55g bar or in boxes of 12.

How the Barebells Soft Bar supports your objectives
๐ฌ The world's softest protein bar texture โ a genuinely new eating experience The Soft Bar range was specifically developed to address texture fatigue with conventional protein bars. The marshmallow, caramel, banana and coconut cores are formulated to be genuinely soft โ not just "softer than average." For athletes who find standard protein bars too firm or too dry, the Soft Bar resolves the texture barrier completely.
๐ช 16 to 17g of protein per bar โ meaningful contribution from a snack format Each Soft Bar delivers 16g (Caramel Choco, Banana Dream, Coco Choco) or 17g (Marshmallow Rocky Road) of protein per 55g bar. While slightly lower than the 20g of the Original range, this remains a meaningful protein contribution from a snack-format bar โ comparable to approximately 60 to 70g of chicken breast or two eggs โ in a product that tastes like a dessert.
๐ซ No added sugar โ high fibre content in most variants All four Soft Bar flavours contain zero added sugar. Total sugars per bar range from 1.9g (Coco Choco) to 2.1g (Banana Dream, Caramel Choco) โ all from naturally occurring sugars in milk and other ingredients. The Caramel Choco and Banana Dream variants are particularly notable for their high fibre content: 7g per bar (Caramel Choco) and 6.8g per bar (Banana Dream) โ genuinely exceptional for a 55g confectionery-style bar, contributing meaningfully to daily fibre targets.
๐ฅฅ Real ingredients in the flavour inclusions Coco Choco contains over 10% real coconut flakes. Marshmallow Rocky Road contains real peanuts alongside a genuine marshmallow texture layer. These real-ingredient inclusions are not flavourings โ they contribute actual texture and taste authenticity that distinguishes Soft Bars from artificially flavoured protein bars.
๐ด No palm oil โ a brand commitment across the full Barebells range No Barebells bar contains palm oil. This is a consistent brand-level commitment that extends across all Original and Soft Bar variants.
๐ฏ Goal guide
๐๏ธ Mass gain: 1 to 2 bars/day post-workout or between meals. Adds protein and moderate calories within a caloric surplus.
๐ฅ Weight loss / cutting: 1 bar/day. High-protein, no-added-sugar treat replacing calorie-dense conventional snacks.
โ๏ธ Body recomposition: 1 bar/day. Protein-rich snack with high fibre (Caramel Choco, Banana Dream) for satiety support.
Serving suggestion
Open the wrapper and consume directly. No preparation required. Store at room temperature in a cool, dry place. The Soft Bar's texture is at its best at room temperature โ refrigeration may slightly firm the bar. In warm conditions, the chocolate coating may soften; this is cosmetic only and does not affect nutritional content or safety.
Best times to enjoy it
๐๏ธ Post-workout 16 to 17g of protein in a convenient, ready-to-eat format consumed within 30 to 45 minutes of training. The extremely palatable texture makes post-workout consumption effortless even when appetite is suppressed following intense exercise.
๐ As a post-dinner dessert substitute The Soft Bar range was designed with the evening dessert occasion in mind. The Caramel Choco, Coco Choco and Banana Dream flavours in particular are natural replacements for conventional chocolate bars, caramel desserts and sweet evening snacks โ with no added sugar and a meaningful protein contribution.
โ๏ธ As a mid-afternoon snack The combination of protein (16 to 17g) and high dietary fibre (up to 7g in Caramel Choco) makes the Soft Bar a highly effective hunger management tool between meals, particularly during cutting or body recomposition phases.
โ๏ธ On the go Each bar is individually wrapped and shelf-stable at room temperature, making it the most portable high-protein snack format available.
Daily protein target reminder
Current sports nutrition science recommends 1.6 to 2.2g of protein per kg of body weight per day for active individuals. Each Barebells Soft Bar contributes 16 to 17g of protein toward this daily target. For vegan athletes, targeting the upper end (1.8 to 2.2g/kg) is advised.
| Body weight | Min. target (1.6g/kg) | Max. target (2.2g/kg) | Bars needed* |
|---|---|---|---|
| 55 kg | 88g/day | 121g/day | 1 bar covers 16-17g |
| 65 kg | 104g/day | 143g/day | 1 bar covers 16-17g |
| 75 kg | 120g/day | 165g/day | 1 bar covers 16-17g |
| 85 kg | 136g/day | 187g/day | 1 bar covers 16-17g |
| 95 kg | 152g/day | 209g/day | 1 bar covers 16-17g |
*Barebells bars complement a protein-rich diet; total daily protein should come from a variety of sources.
Goal-specific guidance
For weight loss and cutting: The Soft Bar is particularly effective during caloric restriction phases because it combines high palatability (eliminating the psychological deprivation associated with dieting) with meaningful protein content and no added sugar. The Caramel Choco and Banana Dream variants offer an additional satiety advantage through their exceptional fibre content (6.8 to 7g per bar), which slows gastric emptying and extends the feeling of fullness after consumption.
For mass gain: Use 1 to 2 Soft Bars per day as convenient inter-meal protein top-ups. Each bar contributes 203 to 217 kcal alongside 16 to 17g of protein. For athletes who want maximum protein per bar, the Barebells Original range (20g protein per bar) remains the higher-protein option.
๐ Sport Nutrition "Did you know?"
The Barebells Soft Bar range was launched in Scandinavia in early 2022 and grew to become Barebells' second-largest product family within two years of launch. The brand's decision to create a softer format was driven by consumer research showing that the single biggest barrier to daily protein bar consumption for non-athletes was texture โ not taste, not price, not protein content. By solving the texture problem, Barebells opened their products to a significantly broader audience, including people who had never previously enjoyed a protein bar. The Caramel Choco โ described as "our softest bar ever" โ consistently ranks among the top-reviewed items across all European markets where it is available.

Q1 โ What is the difference between Barebells Soft Bars and Barebells Original bars? The key differences are texture, protein content and fibre. Original bars have a firm, nougat-like bite and deliver 20g of protein per bar with 2.8 to 3.5g of fibre. Soft Bars have an ultra-soft, almost marshmallow or caramel-like texture, deliver 16 to 17g of protein, and two variants (Caramel Choco and Banana Dream) offer exceptionally high fibre content of 6.8 to 7g per bar. The Soft Bar is the right choice for people who prefer a softer eating experience or who want a higher fibre snack bar. The Original is the right choice for those who prioritise maximum protein per bar.
Q2 โ Why does Coco Choco have more saturated fat than the other Soft Bars? Coco Choco contains over 10% real coconut flakes. Coconut is naturally high in saturated fat (predominantly lauric acid), which is why the saturated fat content of Coco Choco (7.6g per bar) is significantly higher than the other three flavours (4.3 to 4.7g). This saturated fat comes entirely from a natural plant source โ not from dairy or animal fats. The overall fat profile of coconut is different from animal-derived saturated fat in terms of metabolism and health impact.
Q3 โ Are Barebells Soft Bars suitable for people with nut allergies? No. The Marshmallow Rocky Road contains peanuts directly in the ingredient list. All four Soft Bar variants may contain traces of cereals containing gluten, egg, peanuts, nuts and sesame seeds due to shared manufacturing equipment. Individuals with peanut or nut allergies should not consume any variant of the Soft Bar range. Always read the current product label before consumption.
Q4 โ Are Barebells Soft Bars halal certified? With a few exceptions, Barebells bars are halal certified. The four Soft Bar flavours stocked are expected to fall within the halal-certified range; however, as the brand notes that newly launched flavours may still await confirmed certification, always verify the current halal status on the product label before purchase if this is a dietary requirement.
Q5 โ Is the box of 12 the same product as the individual bar? Yes. The box of 12 contains 12 individually wrapped bars of the same 55g format and identical formula to the individually sold bar. The box format is more economical per bar and is the preferred choice for athletes and regular consumers who want to maintain a consistent supply without frequent restocking.
